Letter A and other tot school activities / Litera A - kontynuacja

Welcome back. It’s our fourth week with Tot School. This week as well as the previous one was to a great extent dedicated to letter A. / Witamy ponownie. To już nasza czwarta odsłona w Tot School. W tym tygodniu tak jak i w zeszłym dużo naszych działań związanych było ponownie z literką A. Zapraszamy na pokład naszego edukacyjnego statku.





I have been thinking a lot about the form in which I should introduce Antek to his Tot School routine. Finally through trial and error we have worked out our own ritual. In short, it looks as follows: Usually after his first snack when Antek is most willing to cooperate I stick a Tot School label on the door to let him now it’s time for our educational adventure. We enter the room ( I don’t conduct our lessons in boys’ room due to the huge number of distracters:-). We prepare our workplace ( we use our coffee table which serves the purpose perfectly). Antek dusts it. I keep a special little dust cloth and a Pronto in a specially prepared container positioned just at his level. Not only does it help him to learn to care for the environment in which he works but it is also a good gross motor skill.

Długo zastanawiałam się nad forma wprowadzenia Antka w codzienny rytuał naszej edukacyjnej przygody. Metodą prób i błędów wypracowaliśmy swój własny rytuał. W skrócie wygląda on w następujący sposób. Przeważnie po 2 śniadaniu kiedy Antek jest najbardziej chętny do współpracy, przyklejam do drzwi etykietę na której widnieje logo Tot School - to sygnał, że zabawę czas zacząć. Wchodzimy do pokoju (nie jest to pokój chłopców ze w względu na ilość elementów które mogłyby go rozproszyć). Przygotowujemy nasz stolik do pracy (jest to w zasadzie nasz stolik do kawy ale sprawdza się rewelacyjnie). Antek ściera z niego kurz. W specjalnym pojemniczku na jego poziomie trzymam małą ściereczkę i pojemnik z Pronto specjalnie dla niego przygotowany- oprócz nauki dbania o własne środowisko pracy jest to także dobre ćwiczenie usprawniające motoryki większą.






Later on, Antek chooses a tray he wants to work with and simply starts working with it. (Hurray!!! As of today I am a proud owner of a set of my Montessori’s shelves to store all our activities but this issue I would like to describe in details in another post) I always leave the choice to Antek and never force him to do something he doesn’t want to do. (In the last 3 weeks, he liked all the activities I had prepared for him which was not always the case.) Usually he uses all activities we have in our trays. When the work is finished I help him to put all things in their proper places. / Kiedy mamy to już za sobą Antek wybiera sobie koszyk z którym ma ochotę popracować ( Hura!!! od dzisiaj mamy specjalne półki ale o tym już w innym poście) i zaczynamy zabawę. Wybór pozostawiam Antkowi (jak dotąd wszystkie ćwiczenia, które dla niego przygotowałam przypadły mu do gustu – chociaż nie zawsze tak było). Zazwyczaj Antek wykorzystuje wszystko co mamy w koszykach. Po skończonej pracy odkładamy wszystko z powrotem do koszyka i zanosimy na swoje miejsce.


Below you will find a record of things we have accomplished his week./A oto już zapis tego co udało się nam zrobić w tym tygodniu .


I have used three part lesson’s cards with Antek for the first time. Our set consists of six word cards starting with letter “a”/ Po raz pierwszy wprowadziłam Antosiowi karty do lekcji trójstopniowej wykorzystywane w metodzie Montessori. Zestaw składa się z szesciu kart ze słowami zaczynającymi się na literę „a”.





We began by laying them from left to right and naming objects and animals on the pictures. / Rozpoczęliśmy od ułożenia ich od lewej do prawej i nazwania przedmiotów i zwierząt znajdujących się na obrazkach.





When Antek could pronounce or point to all the pictures, we moved on to sorting them by category they belonged to i.e. animals, musical instruments, means of transport and plants. / Kiedy Antek umiał już nazwać bądź pokazać wszystkie obrazki przeszliśmy do sortowania ich według kategorii do której przynależą tzn. zwierzęta, instrumenty muzyczne środki transportu i rośliny.








Again we set the cards from left to right. Antek used the second set of cards to match pictures to the control card. This task was quite easy for him. / Ponownie ustawiliśmy karty od lewej do prawej. Korzystając z drugiego zestawu identycznych kart (w drugim zestawie obrazek i wyraz występują osobno) Antek dopasowywał obrazki tworząc pary. To zadanie nie stanowiło dla niego żadnego problemu.







Finally, we moved to matching words to the control card. First time he only managed to match two words. Later in the week he got better and today he managed to do them all. / Kolejnym etapem było dopasowanie słowa z drugiego zestawu do karty kontrolnej. Antkowi samodzielnie udało się dopasować za pierwszym razem tylko 2 wyrazy : auto i ananas. Z biegiem tygodnia było coraz lepiej i na dzień dzisiejszy Antek potrafi dopasować je wszystkie bez problemu. Na zdjęciu poniżej mój mały bohater robiący hura w związku z świetnie wykonanym zadaniem ;-).





He loves to put the cards into the envelope and play with the slider. / Po skończonej zabawie Antek z wielką frajdą wkłada materiał do zasuwanej na suwak koperty i odkłada wszystko na miejsce.

My dear husband prepared those lovely buses from the scratch (A word “bus” in Polish “autobus” starts with letter “a”). The purpose of this activity is to match lower case “a” with upper case “A” making a coloristic match. / Moj kochany mąż wyczarował te autobusiki specjalnie dla Antka. Zadanie polega na dopasowaniu dużej i małej litery „a” w taki sposób, żeby powstała kolorystyczna para.





We used some of the printables created by Michell from Musings of me to practice the concepts of big, medium and small / W nauce pojęć takich jak: duży , średni i mały pomocne okazały się materiały przygotowane przez Michell z Musings of me.







Our “A” treat this week - a pineapple (in Polish ‘pineapple’ means ‘ananas’). As you can tell from the picture a pineapple is not his favourite fruit.
/ Oczywiście nie mogło w naszym tygodniu z literką A zabraknąć jakiegoś smakołyku rozpoczynającego się na tę właśnie literę. Poniżej Antek i ananas, który jak widać nie znalazł się na liście ulubionych dań.







Antek’s favourite fruit is still a lemon. / Dla kontrastu ulubiony owoc Antka to cytryna (moje dziecko zdecydowanie woli kwaśne rzeczy i wcale się nie dziwie bo będąc z Antkiem w ciąży sama zjadałam tony kwaśnych smakołyków ;-).




This week I also let Antek work with geometric figures worksheets and movable alphabet I prepared for him some time ago. The set consists of 8 geometric figures. This week Antek worked only with rhomb. I’m going to add one new worksheet every second or third day. / Po raz pierwszy w tym tygodniu wprowadziłam Antkowi karty z figurami geometrycznymi i ruchomym alfabetem które specjalnie dla niego stworzyłam. W naszej kolekcji znajdują się : romb, koło, elipsa, serce, trójkąt, kwadrat, owal, trapez. W tym tygodniu Antoś pracował z rombem. Już za trzecim razem udało mu się poprawnie ułożyć całość. Nowe kart zamierzam wprowadzać nie częściej niż co 3-4 dni.




I also added a new file folder game from File Folder Fan to our tray. As you can see Antek is still struggling to figure out the number to actual amount correspondence. However, he has no problem in telling me how many cherries are on each cup cake ( I owe it to the Glenn Doman’s math program). / W tym tygodniu w naszym koszyku pojawiła się także nowa gra folderowa z File Folder Fan. Jak widać Antek ma jeszcze duży problem z dopasowaniem cyfry do faktycznej ilości. Chociaż dzięki programowi Domana bezbłędnie umie powiedzieć na której babeczce jest ile wisienek.






Antek loves to work with his color puzzles. This week we added purple, pink, brown and green ones. Antek does these activities within seconds. They are also a great opportunity for him to practice his English vocabulary. /
Nasz ćwiczenia z kolorami wzbogaciliśmy o filet, róż, brąz i zieleń. Antek układa je błyskawicznie. Dzięki tym ćwiczeniom tuptuś zaczął także wypowiadać swoje pierwsze angielskie słowa.




He also started to fill in the words in some English songs we sing together. His English vocabulary is growing rapidly with each day. I have to mention that we are doing Helen Doron's BBS program. We officially started our cosmic education. This week we focused on continents outlines. The map you can see in the picture was made by me and though it leaves much to be desired the boys love it so I think I will leave it the way it is)
Oficjalnie zaczęliśmy też naszą kosmiczna edukacje. Tutaj mapa z kontynentami ( Mapa w moim wykonaniu pozostawia wiele do życzenia ale i Antek i Kuba ją uwielbiają wiec chyba już z nami zostanie).



One of our reading sessions this week. / Jedna z naszych sesji czytania.




The boys spent many hours playing with their trains. / Antek i Kuba często w tym tygodniu bawili się razem pociągami.












Antek likes his easel very much. Recently he has shifted his focus from scribbling to erasing the scribbles./ Antek bardzo lubi spędzać czas przy swojej sztaludze .





Antek practiced his musical skills playing on my pots. I hope my neighbors will forgive me the terrible noise we made / Urządziliśmy sobie także koncert na dwa garnki i mieszadełko. Mam nadzieję że nasi sąsiedzi nam wybaczą.








Another thing from practical life’s sphere that can absorb Antek for hours is a shoelace. / Kolejną rzeczą w dziedzinie życia praktycznego, która potrafi pochłonąć Antka bez reszty są sznurowadła i ich wiązanie a raczej plątanie i rozplątywanie. :-).





Great fun cannot do without blocks./ Oczywiście dobra zabawa nie może mieć miejsca bez klocków.

Flu, letter A and other things we did.

~Antek is 16,5 months old~



We had great plans for this week. Unfortunately, we had to modify them due to the fact that flu decided to pay us a visit. Kuba had such a terrible coughing attacks that we had to keep him at home for the whole week. What is more, my printer refused to cooperate and broke down and I even couldn’t print the stuff I had prepared for the boys. Not to mentioned the outrages delay on the part of the company that provides us with the laminator’s pouches. Therefore, I decided to postpone the letter A formal instruction to the following week. Taking all those disasters into account we still had a great week full of delightful learning, story telling, hugging, giggling and laughing.



This activity was initiated by Antek himself. He was scribbling with his new crayons when he decided to make a shape out of them. He made a triangle and then decided to make a letter A and started counting the crayons.

He traced the letter A on our easel.





He was trying to copy the letter “A” on paper. Each time he scribbled something he pronounced the sound of the letter.











We did some sensory activities with rice.





We were to visit the museum of Musical Instruments but we had to postpone it too. Instead we invented our own exposition of funny things made from items we had at home.

Antoś played a lot with his geometry puzzles.







He also did his colour matching activities. This week he worked on yellow, blue and red sheet. I tried to reinforce his recognition of the primary colours.






We chased shadows on the wall.









Antek learned to sit on a chair (a bit to high for him) in a safe and unassisted way.





He practised his balance on the pack of bottled water ;-)





He played with his toy cash register a lot this week. He figured out how to use a microphone.





He also liked to lock and unlocked the cash register.









He loves to build towers from his barrels.




We revised the jungle animals.





My little boy has recently become obsessed with the Moon. Whenever he wakes up he has to check it. He can pronounce its name. He can point it in the sky and on the flashcard. This is so cute. I guess the next flashcards I am going to prepare for him will be about the phases of the moon.












This folder game from File Folder Fun is one of his favourite. Antek likes to produce the sound of each animal. He can make a lot of noise. :-)




Antek spent quite a lot of time doing his spooning and pouring activity from the previous week.











We had a nice little guest. The boys cooperated quite well.





We practiced reading. Here, Antek is holding his favourite sentence :-).

Antek sorted his magnetic letters by color with a little help from his brother.




Later on, Antek used the cups to build a tower.





He ended up pouring the content of one cup into another one.

Antek has a great opportunity to observe and learn from his brother.




The final product of Kuba’s work. He portrayed me as a queen of the house. I love the high-heels :-)




We spent a lot of time playing outdoors.








I tried to reinforce the recognition of primary colors by preparing and serving Antek some red, yellow and blue colored food. Antek has eaten French fries and ketchup first time ever. ( I made them myself in the oven without oil so they were quite healthy). He had ketchup all over his face and hair. I guess he liked it.








Another chance to practice with puzzles.




Antek worked intensively on paper folding. He did a great job. And repeated the activity multiple times during the week.
